Rick Ross x Jonathan Mannion discuss album images and classic moments [Video]

On December 2nd 2011, acclaimed photographer Jonathan Mannion sat down with the Maybach Music King Rick Ross for a special hour long conversation at the 10 yr anniversary of ART BASEL in Miami. This is the 1st part of the conversation piece which Mr Mannion explains in full detail below.

“I had the unique and unprecedented honor of sitting down with the legendary Rock Ross at the 10 year anniversary celebration of ART BASEL in Miami, FL. During this hour-long conversation we covered many highlights of our photo sessions over the last 8 years, the impact of the images, their meaning and the attention to detail within the shots. This episode focuses on our discussion of the artwork generated for the albums Trilla, Deeper Than Rap, Teflon Don and God Forgives, I Don’t. It is a visual exploration of my interpretation of Ross’ rise to the top of the game through these covers and our thoughts behind the moments created.

My team and I curated a unique set of material to present at the gallery, AE District, in a show titled “CLASSIC” presented by Reebok Classics. Although on many levels, that was enough for some, I wanted to add valuable layers to the experience, to do more than showcase the work. It’s a look at how my mind works, my perspective when shooting as well as what it feels like to be photographed by me through the words of the “BO$$.” Having developed a strong relationship with the don of the 305, Ricky Rozay, I figured there would be nobody more appropriate to help convey the example of a career documented by my images.”
